Walmart & Pampers Team Up for Donation to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals & Giveaway

A favorite among his school peers, “delightfully mischievous” Michael was born with Apert syndrome, a rare genetic disorder causing birth defects such as abnormal head and limb development. 

At just 5 months old, Michael underwent major surgery to expand and reshape his skull to make room for his developing brain. Thirteen more surgeries followed, including procedures to adjust his jaw and separate his fused fingers and toes. With so many treatments, Michael’s mom dubbed medical terminology as the family’s “third language” in addition to the English and Spanish they already speak. 

Michael has a bright future thanks to his continued treatment and surgeries at Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare. Michael enjoys playing guitar, drums and recorder and can’t wait to show off his skills at school music concerts. He also likes to ride bikes and play soccer. Recently, Michael joined the Boy Scouts and is excited to be a Cub Scout.

Eat and Snack Smarter with Del Monte Fruit Cups

Ok, tell me if you face the same situation in your house that I face in mine...

Making sure your children and/or husband are eating and snacking healthy foods while they are away from home. 

For dinners and on the weekend, I am in charge of meals for everyone so I can personally make sure everyone is eating healthy meals and snacks. But during the day when my husband is gone for breakfast, lunch and snacks, I don't know (or DON'T WANT TO KNOW!) what he is eating...out of the vending machines, fast food, candy bars, etc. I think if he had the choice (and no health risks!), he would eat out every meal and eat a candy bar, donut or sweet for every snack!

But as he has learned over the years from me and from experience, he needs to eat balanced, healthy meals throughout the day along with healthy snacks to keep up his energy levels, prevent weight gain, and prevent any health risk/diseases.

I always try to encourage him to take fruit and vegetables for snacks and for lunch but it can be hard to bring fresh fruit to work. So when I saw that Del Monte recently released new fruit cups that have only 60 calories per serving, are gluten free, and do not include high fructose corn syrup, we immediately headed to our local Walmart to pick some Del Monte Fruit Cups out. I really wanted to encourage him to try taking them to work and eating them for snack. You can see my entire shopping trip in my Google + Album.

There are four individual cups in each package and they are PERFECT for bringing to work as snacks throughout the day! My husband gets a serving of fruit in each cup and they don't have any of the icky high fructose corn syrup!

And they were!!!

My husband was a little hesitant at first to try them but I asked him to take them to work and give them a try! They make a perfect snack at work and can be eaten anywhere anytime with ease and that is really important to him!

His favorite flavor was Diced Apples & Pears with Caramel Flavor but he liked the Diced Pears with Vanilla & Spice too! (As you can tell from his "Mmmmm...this is good!" face below!)

How do you make a Kleenex dance? 

Put a little boogie in it!

Ha, ha... right? Yes, a very simple (some may say lame...) joke, but when I was in 5th grade it was a funny joke that my teacher told our class that has stayed with me all these years!

Just like this joke, Kleenex brand tissues have also stayed right by my side and my family's side all these years...especially during cold and flu season. When I think of tissue brands, Kleenex is the first brand that comes to mind. I mean there is a reason that everyone calls all brands of tissues "kleenex". They have definitely made a name for themselves and stood behind it with soft tissues that are durable against even the worst cold!

Thankfully, since we have started daily vitamins and changed our diets to organic foods, cold season isn't as bad as it used to be for us! However, when it does hit, it hits hard and it is always useful to be prepared ahead of time because I know I definitely won't feel like going to the store when I am sick or I have been up all night with one of my children or husband that are sick.

So I recently headed to our local Walmart to stock up on some cold/flu supplies and Kleenex tissues so we are ready whatever comes our way this winter!

While at Walmart, we bought allergy pills, lip balm and, of course, Kleenex brand tissues. You can see my Google + story about our Walmart shopping trip here. Plus, we got the added bonus of a $4 Vudu movie credit code on our Kleenex box so we can get a free movie to watch the next time we get sick and don't want to leave bed!

In addition to the supplies, we picked up at Walmart, I make sure to always have tea, humidifiers, lots of vitamins, chest rub, lotions (for dry noses!), air purifiers and lots of water on hand when my family catches the flu or cold! We prefer a more natural approach to sicknesses so we don't really use any cold medicines (unless it is all natural). Rest, lots of vitamins, water, and humidifiers at night usually do the trick with our family and we really focus on prevention before the sickness happens!

However, for me, my favorite "medicine" when I am sick is to sit in bed and feel sorry for myself. (JK)!! But. seriously, I love to sit in bed, put my favorite chick flick (or latest movie that I haven't seen yet) on and take a minute for myself to just relax! I don't get that chance very often being home alone with two kids all week but if my husband takes a day off to allow me to fight my cold/flu, I take it! That is why I love that the Kleenex box I bought at Walmart had the $4 Vudu movie credit! I now have $4 to spend for a movie and I can watch it on my laptop anytime I want! I am definitely saving this for the day I get to sit in bed and relax!
