Scotties Facial Tissues by Royale Supports Cat & Kitten Adoptions in June!

Back for their 4th year, Scotties Facial Tissues partnered with animal rescue organization up and down the east coast in an effort to get eligible cats and kittens into loving adoptive homes. Each organization - The Animal Protective Foundation (Albany, NY), Boston MSPCA (Boston, MA), and the Humane Society of Tampa Bay (Tampa, FL) all received $5,000 each to go towards the re-homing of cats. All cats and kittens adopted have been spayed, neutered, vaccinated, and screened for temperment.

From June 1st through the 7th during “Scotties Adoption Week” we are proud to say that in 2017 alone over 400 cats and kittens have gone into loving forever homes.

Initiated by Scotties in 2014, this ongoing effort to increase the number cats and kittens going to good homes has been a key focus for the brand. All adoptable cats and kittens are spayed / neutered, microchipped, screened for temperament, and are up to date on all shots and vaccinations. In the past four years, Scotties has found homes for more than 700 cats and kittens.

“Here at Scotties, we are delighted to see this program in its fourth year,” said John Robertson, Scotties Marketing Director, “We take great pride in helping hundreds of cats find the loving forever homes they so desperately need.”

Scotties hopes to rally support for this cause and to rehome approximately 100 – 150 cats nationally in 2017. Caring owners looking to adopt can visit one of the participating rescue organizations for more information on shelter location, hours, and descriptions of adoptable cats.

This summer, my family has enjoyed relaxing at our cabin, fishing and having bonfires with s'mores! For us, it is the simple family memories that we will cherish forever - my children catching their first fish, enjoying the simple pleasure of a warm s'more and watching the sunset over the lake. It really has been a great summer!

At home, we love our daily walks as a family, working on the garden together and watching my son learn to ride his two-wheel bike for the first time! Family bike rides are definitely going to be our future favorite summer memories I think!

As summer comes to an end, these are the memories that warm my heart, make me slow down, and savor this wonderful summer season.

1. Wear Sunglasses to Keep Pollen Out of Your Eyes 

An estimated 35 million Americans experience hay fever caused by wind-borne pollen or mold spores. Wearing sunglasses outside can reduce the amount of pollen or spores that get into your eyes. Allergy-irritated eyes are also more sensitive to sunlight, so stylish shades may help your eyes feel better, too. "The best kinds of sunglasses to wear are dark glasses that wrap around to block as much wind pollen as possible," Dr. Hong says.

2. Ditch Pollen-Producing Indoor Plants 

"Indoor houseplants that flower aren’t likely to cause a pollen allergy, because most flowering plants are pollinated by insects," Hong explains. "But indoor plant soil can let plenty of mold spores into your house." If you have hay fever or a mold allergy, keep houseplants to a minimum and definitely keep them out of your bedroom. The biggest offenders are indoor shrubs, trees, and grasses that may produce pollens.

3. Kill Dust Mites With a Hot Wash

One of the biggest causes of indoor allergies is the dust mite. These microscopic insects love to live on your bedding and stuffed animals. Hong advises washing all of your bedding in hot water and drying it in a hot dryer to kill dust mites. Keep stuffed animals off the bed, and wash sheets and blankets at least once a week in water that's 130° F or higher to limit the effects of this indoor-allergy culprit.

4. Take a Vacation From Pollen 

Hay fever is also known as seasonal allergic rhinitis, because pollens tend to be worse in specific seasons when trees, grasses, and weeds pollinate. If you can identify your trigger season, you may be able to avoid the worst pollen exposure by getting out of town for at least part of it. The beach is a great place to escape from pollen. But let’s face it: It’s hard to take a vacation that lasts an entire allergy season, so avoid pollen at home by staying inside as much as possible when pollen counts are high, especially at mid-morning and on windy days.

The common cold is accurately named because it is indeed the most frequent infection we encounter. Thankfully Mount Auburn Hospital, a top Harvard teaching hospital and Scotties Facial Tissues are here to bring you their top 10 list of cold remedies to help alleviate your symptoms next time you feel yourself getting sick.

 Cause: 

The common cold as explained by Stephen H. Zinner, M.D., Director of Medicine for Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, MA is caused by a number of different viruses, and as such is not treatable with antibiotics (which treat infections caused by bacteria). There is no definitive or specific treatment or cure for the common cold, which is an example of a “self-limited” infection, meaning that patients recover when the infection has run its natural course.

1. Humidification – add a humidifier to your home or steam a pot of water in the kitchen.

4. nasal saline irrigation and select nasal sprays,
5. Aspirin or acetaminophen may be useful for the body aches that may accompany the first 24 -48 hours of a cold.

Summer is here! 

And we are definitely feeling it here in Minnesota: the last three days have been mid 90's and I am definitely thankful for the wonderful blessing of CENTRAL AIR!

Now that we are finally in our own home again, one of our favorite ways for my husband and I to spend the weekend nights is watching a movie together. We love all types and genres of movies, but I have to say that I do love the tear jerkers or "chick flicks" best! :) The Notebook is my all time favorite movie and that definitely makes me cry every time! :)
