Book Review: True to You

A book was given for review for my honest opinion. No other compensation was given.

About the book:

It's the exciting start of a brand-new series by a contemporary romance fan favorite!

After a devastating heartbreak three years ago, genealogist and historical village owner Nora Bradford has decided that burying her nose in her work and her books is far safer than romance in the here and now.

Unlike Nora, former Navy SEAL and Medal of Honor recipient John Lawson is a modern-day man, usually 100 percent focused on the present. But when he's diagnosed with an inherited condition, he's forced to dig into the secrets of his past and his adoption as an infant, enlisting Nora to help him uncover the identity of his birth mother.

The more time they spend together, the more this pair of opposites suspects they just might be a perfect match. However, John's already dating someone and Nora's not sure she's ready to trade her crushes on fictional heroes for the risks of a real relationship. Finding the answers they're seeking will test the limits of their identity, their faith, and their devotion to one another

About the author:

Becky Wade is a California native who attended Baylor University, met and married a Texan, and settled in Dallas. She published historical romances for the general market before putting her career on hold for several years to care for her three children. When God called her back to writing, Becky knew He meant for her to turn her attention to Christian fiction. She loves writing funny, modern, and inspirational contemporary romance! She's the Carol Award, INSPY Award, and Inspirational Reader's Choice Award winning author of My Stubborn Heart, the Porter Family series, and the Bradford Sisters Romance series.

My Opinion

I am a self-proclaimed historical fiction book lover but when I want a contemporary romance I turn to Becky Wade's books! I am a HUGE fan of Becky Wade and her great books and True to You is another great one I am recommending to everyone!

Becky Wade has again created a book that is fun, interesting with loveable characters and with a touch of romance all wrapped into a book that reminds us to trust God above it all!

I instantly fell in love with the characters and their love story and I cheered for them from the very start!  Becky Wade's books are the perfect read for reading on the beach, the deck or in the backyard while soaking up some sun this Summer!! I can't wait to read more books in this series and learn more about the other Bradford Sisters!

Book Review: Door to Freedom

A book was given for review for my honest opinion. No other compensation was given.

About the Book:

It's rough and it's smooth. It's dark and it's light. It's a masterpiece. It's us. Here in Sudan. We are scared of it and drawn to it. There is an open door, and there is much opposition.

In the dusty, Islamic country of Sudan, Mia, who is raising her family in a Muslim country, has learned to boldly share her faith. Rania, the daughter of a wealthy Sudanese Arab, seeks to find the reason for her sister's sudden disappearance. Mia holds some of the answers, but both women quickly discover they must each walk through their own doors to freedom, the freedom that only comes when you trust God's sovereignty more than manmade security.

Part of New Hope Publishers' line of contemporary missional fiction, Door to Freedom, the sequel to Side by Side, opens the reader's eyes to modern-day persecution and the life of Muslims in Sudan. Based on real-life events, Door to Freedom also reveals some of the struggles that Christians face when living under Islamic law. The reader will be inspired to pray for those who are persecuted for their faith as well as for the salvation of the persecutors.

About the Author:

Author of the captivating novel Side by Side, Jana Kelley is a Texan who hardly ever lives in Texas. Raised in Southeast Asia, Jana developed a love for cross-cultural living early in life. Her love for writing came soon after. Jana returned to Texas to attend East Texas Baptist University. She and her husband married a month after she graduated, and by their second anniversary, they were living in a remote African town. After 13 years living in Africa and the Middle East, Jana, her husband, and their three boys moved to Southeast Asia where they currently live.

My Opinion

Reading the first book in this series from Jana Kelley, Side by Side, was really eye opening and life changing for me. I still think about what I learned about Sudanese and Muslim culture and I have shared the book with many others who have also enjoyed it!

So when I saw there was a second book coming out, Door to Freedom, I couldn't wait to read it! It was just as inspiring and interesting as the first one! I really like the writing style of Jana Kelley - the events in the book, the culture and the characters really become real to me when reading these books.

I really recommend reading Door to Freedom and also reading Side by Side first if you haven't already! They really will be life changing and inspiring as a Christian in today's world. It reminds me how blessed I am to live in America where I am free to dress and believe how I want as a woman. I am free to pick my spouse, be friends with who I want and talk about my faith as often as I would like. What a life and experiences Jana Kelley has had in her life and you can really see them in the way she writes and how vivid she makes her books!

When Charlie arrives---broken and confused---Sis immediately puts her granddaughter to work behind the scenes of the local school's Christmas play, A Christmas Carol. Charlie prickles at working with Dustin Kennedy, the drama teacher and her old crush from schooldays, but is even more put out at that the choice of the Dickens' classic for the holiday performance. My Opinion

The holidays are coming up quickly and the weather is turning colder. There is no better time to snuggle up with a good book.

This Fall, grab God Bless Us Every One by Everson. It's the perfect book for getting in the holiday mood and snuggling up under a blanket.

It's a great book about forgiveness and a look into the famous A Christmas Carol. I really enjoyed watching Charlie's journey of love and forgiveness and it will really get you in the giving spirit.

Book Review: The Things We Knew

A book was given for review for my honest opinion. No other compensation was given.

About the book:

A tragedy from the past resurfaces in this tale of family secrets and reignited love.

After her mother's death twelve years ago, Lynette Carlisle watched her close-knit family unravel. One by one, her four older siblings left their Nantucket home and never returned. All seem to harbor animosity toward their father, silently blaming him for their mother's death. Nobody will talk about that dreadful day, and Lynette can't remember a bit of it.

But when next-door neighbor Nicholas Cooper returns to Nantucket, he brings the past with him. Once her brother's best friend and Lynette's first crush, Nick seems to hiding things from her. Lynette wonders what he knows about the day her mother died and hopes he might help her remember the things she can't.

But Nick has no intention of telling Lynette the truth. Besides the damage it might cause his own family, he doesn't want to risk harming the fragile friendship between him and the woman he once thought of as a kid sister.

As their father's failing health and financial concerns bring the Carlisle siblings home, secrets begin to surface---secrets that will either restore their shattered relationships or separate the siblings forever. But pulling up anchor on the past propels them into the perfect storm, powerful enough to make them question all they ever believed in.

About the author:

Catherine West writes stories of hope and healing from her island home in Bermuda. When she's not at the computer working on her next story, you can find her taking her Border collie for long walks on the beach or tending to her roses and orchids. She and her husband have two grown children.

My Opinion

There are so many complex and serious issues discussed in this book that make it an honest, beautiful and healing book. I love the story line of both Nick and Lynette and the healing that must take place in both families in order to move forward with life.

This book was a great reminder that hope, faith and love really can conquer all. I am eager to read more from Catherine West in the future! I think she is a very talented author!

But in her sixteenth summer, all that changes without warning. There begins Lily's struggle to find herself and the life she's lost. . . . At the beginning of Lily's journey into love, her heartbreaking story had me in tears, hurting along with Lily, urging her to get help. And then as the story progresses, my heart heals with Lily, encourages her and gets excited for her  new life!

The author Johnson has done an amazing job of weaving a story that has stayed with me long after I finished the last page of this book. It is written so well with so much emotion - I had to finish it as fast as I could just to see how Lily's life will turn out!

Book Review: The Hearts We Mend

A book was given for review for my honest opinion. No other compensation was given.

About the book:

Planning and Post-It notes are the epitome of Evie's life. But when she meets Jack, her life gets more than a little complicated.

Thirteen years ago, Evie's firefighter husband was killed in the line of duty, leaving her to raise their young son, Cody, alone. Now, Cody is marrying the love of his life, and as he packs up his belongings, the house feels as empty as Evie's heart. But for all her planning and mad organizational skills, Evie could never have anticipated the dramatic shift her life is about to make.

Tattooed, rough-around-the-edges Jack raises quite a few eyebrows in the tight-knit community of Banister Falls. Where Evie's life is stream-lined, Jack's approach to living is moment-by-moment. But as Evie gets drawn into Jack's world---a world that isn't as safe or predictable as the one she's worked so hard to create---he challenges her to open her eyes to the problems outside the walls of the church.

Jack doesn't make Evie feel comfortable, but he definitely makes her feel something. Something she hasn't felt since Max passed away---or, maybe ever. Because even though Jack isn't anything like her late husband, he just might be everything she needs.

About the author:

Kathryn Springer is a USA Today bestselling author. She grew up in northern Wisconsin, where her parents published a weekly newspaper. As a child she spent many hours sitting at her mother's typewriter, plunking out stories, and credits her parents for instilling in her a love of books --- which eventually turned into a desire to tell stories of her own. Kathryn has written nineteen books with close to two million copies sold. She lives with her husband and three children in Marinette, Wisconsin.

My Opinion

I loved reading this second book in the Banister Falls series. The first book, The Dandelion Field, was so good and The Hearts We Mend was just as good! I loved reading more about the characters from the first book and finding out what and how they are doing!

Plus, we got to look deeper into Evie who was introduced in The Dandelion Field. I loved watching her relationship with Jack develop and evolve. Their story lines and history is so heartbreaking at times but through all their life trials they held onto their faith and trust in God. Their faith is admirable and really reminded me of how important trusting God is in all situations!

Kathryn Springer writes with humor, love, passion, and trial and I enjoyed the journey of getting to know Evie and Jack and their families every step of the way! I can't wait for the next Ballister Falls novel!!!!

Book Review: Kissed by a Cowboy

A book was given for review for my honest opinion. No other compensation was given.

About the book:

Cassidy was looking for a home and a place to belong . . . not for a cowboy to steal her heart.

Having lived through her parents' endless string of "matrimonial bliss gone wrong," Cassidy Starr knows when the odds are not in her favor. Divorced and humiliated, her faith on rocky ground, Cassidy is through with love. She's been bucked off that horse far too many times. Instead, she returns to Wishing Springs, Texas, and the rundown farm she's inherited from her great aunt Roxie. She'll reopen the strawberry farm and a bed & breakfast and follow in her aunt's footsteps, remaining forever-independent, happy . . . and single.

Rancher Jarrod Monahan's hands are full running the ranch, looking after his ailing grandfather, and chasing down a group of rustlers on the loose. He's pushed his longing for a family to the bottom of his list of priorities. Besides, he was in love once but ran scared and lost his shot at happiness. But suddenly, the biggest regret of his life has moved in next door with a wounded heart, determined to become a spinster . . . and that's a challenge that Jarrod can't pass up.

Jarrod sets his mind to breaking down the walls around Cassidy's stubborn heart. How can he show her that a cowboy's kiss lasts forever? For the good folks of Wishing Springs, falling in love has never been so much fun to witness.

About the author:

Debra Clopton is a multi-award winning novelist and has written more than 22 novels. Along with writing, Debra helps her husband teach the youth at their local Cowboy Church. Debra's goal is to shine a light toward God while she entertains readers with her words.

My Opinion

There is nothing like curling up with a super sweet romance novel by the fireplace and loving every  minute of the book as you read. That is what I experienced with Kissed by a Cowboy. I loved the humor that Debra Clopton writes with, love the super sweet and romantic story line and, of course, you can't lose with a cowboy coming to the rescue! :)

Book Review: The Wedding Chapel

A book was given for review for my honest opinion. No other compensation was given.

About the book:

For sixty years, a wedding chapel sat silent, waiting for love. But times have changed and the hour has come when it just might be too late.

Retired hall-of-fame football coach Jimmy "Coach" Westbrook never imagined anything would come of his labor of love---the wedding chapel he built for Collette Greer, the woman he fell for back in '49. But now an offer has come to turn the chapel into what it was meant to be---a place for love---and Jimmy sees no reason to hang onto his dream any longer.

Photographer Taylor Branson is trying to make a life for herself in New York. Leaving her hometown of Heart's Bend, Tennessee, she put a lot of things behind her, including her family's abysmal marriage rate. But love surprises her when she falls head-over-heels for Jack Forester, a top ad man. Their whirlwind romance results in an elopement, and a mountain of doubt. Jack, while genuine in his love for Taylor, can never seem to overcome his own demons to find the words of his heart.

When Taylor takes an assignment in Heart's Bend, the job does more than send her back to her hometown, but into a world of family secrets buried beneath the sands of time.

When Taylor's journey intersects with Coach's, they rediscover the heartbeat of their dreams and that the love they long to hold is right in front of them. And worth every waiting moment.

About the author:

Rachel Hauck is an award-winning, best selling author of critically acclaimed novels such as The Wedding Dress, Love Starts with Elle, and Once Upon A Prince. She also penned the Songbird Novels with multi-platinum recording artist, Sara Evans. Booklist named their novel, Softly and Tenderly, one of 2011 Top Ten Inspirationals. She serves on the Executive Board for American Christian Fiction Writers and is a mentor and book therapist at My Book Therapy, and conference speaker. Rachel lives in central Florida with her husband and pets.

My Opinion

I have absolutely LOVED every single book from Rachel Hauck! So I was so excited to read her new book, The Wedding Chapel. I was immediately drawn into the story line. However, there are a lot of characters to keep track of in this book and they are switch off telling their stories throughout the book. So, you do have to stay on top of remembering who is who and what all their stories are to really understand the book. It did seem to get too much at some points but overall I really loved the story line, the characters and their stories and the ending! :)

Overall, it wasn't my favorite book of Hauck's but still overall a great book! I can't wait to read more from Rachel Hauck in the future!

Buy It:

You can purchase The Wedding Chapel for $11.95 from Amazon.com

Is sixty years too long to wait for love? Two stories of romance, one in 1949 and one in the modern day, meet in Rachel Hauck's The Wedding Chapel. When Taylor Branson takes an assignment in Heart’s Bend, the job does more than send her back to her hometown, but into a world of family secrets buried beneath the sands of time. Book Review: A Love Like Ours

A book was given for review for my honest opinion. No other compensation was given.

About the book:

Former Marine Jake Porter has far deeper scars than the one that marks his face. He struggles with symptoms of PTSD, lives a solitary life, and avoids relationships.

When Lyndie James, Jake's childhood best friend, lands back in Holley, Texas, Jake cautiously hires her to exercise his Thoroughbreds. Lyndie is tender-hearted, fiercely determined, and afraid of nothing, just like she was as a child. Jake pairs her with Silver Leaf, a horse full of promise but lacking in results, hoping she can solve the mystery of the stallion's reluctance to run.

Though Jake and Lyndie have grown into very different adults, the bond that existed during their childhood still ties them together. Against Jake's will, Lyndie's sparkling, optimistic personality begins to tear down the walls he's built around his heart. A glimmer of the hope he'd thought he'd lost returns, but fears and regrets still plague him. Will Jake ever be able to love Lyndie like she deserves, or is his heart too shattered to mend?

About the author:

Becky Wade is a native of California who attended Baylor University, met and married a Texan, and moved to Dallas. She published historical romances for the general market, took time off to raise her children, then felt God nudging her to pursue contemporary Christian fiction. Becky's work has been a finalist for both a RITA and an INSPY Award.

My Opinion

A Love Like Ours is the 3rd book in the Porter Family novels by Becky Wade. Each one include characters from the other book but they each pretty much standalone. So if you haven't read the others, don't worry, this is still a great book!

Becky Wade never fails in sending a great message in a great book! I love the best friend history between Lyndie and Jake. It reminded me of me and my husband!

I loved watching Lyndie be persistent and have faith that Jake could come past his pain and PTSD. She was there for him every step of the way!

This book is a another great one in the series! I recommend reading them all because they are all great!

Book Review: Betting on Hope

A book was given for review for my honest opinion. No other compensation was given.

About the book:

A bet gone wrong. A small town's meddling. And a cowboy intent on saving his ranch.

Maggie Hope is an advice columnist whose background leaves her with little advice to give . . . and it's beginning to show. When Maggie fills in at an interview with champion horse trainer Tru Monahan, the on-camera chemistry between them is undeniable. Maggie's bosses know this is the opportunity she's been looking for to launch her career---and their bank accounts. In order to save her column, Maggie takes Tru up on the bet that he can teach her to ride a quick-stepping cutting horse like any cowgirl, despite the fact that she has never been on a horse. And in the meantime, she can get the scoop on the man under the cowboy hat.

Tru has been on the competition circuit for longer than he'd like, but he knows it's the only way he can afford to keep the Four of Hearts Ranch that means so much to his ailing grandfather. So when his sponsors see the opportunity for Tru's fans to get to know the star on a more intimate level, he knows he must oblige. To his dismay, Maggie not only invades his small town of Wishing Springs, but she also invades his heart, and that is something he cannot let any woman do-for her own good.

In Wishing Springs, Maggie finds what she has always been looking for: a community and a home. But when her past catches up to her, it threatens everything, even the tender hope that this town holds all of her heart's desires.

About the author:

Debra Clopton is a multi-award winning novelist and has written more than 22 novels. Along with writing, Debra helps her husband teach the youth at their local Cowboy Church. Debra's goal is to shine a light toward God while she entertains readers with her words.

My Opinion

Nothing is better than a good ole' cowboy book!!! And Betting on Hope was definitely one of those great cowboy books!

I love the chemistry between Tru and Maggie and their competitive spirits! I loved going along on their journey to find love, happiness and a home!

This book was really well written, a true romance and one I couldn't put down!

Gin will do anything to make sure her daughter has a bright future . . . a future that's compromised when Raine reveals she's pregnant.

Dan Moretti has only ever called Banister Falls home. After losing his best friend in a tragic accident, Dan devoted himself to responding to fires, rescuing the helpless, and guiding Cody Bennett, his best friend's son, through life. With Cody being the epitome of the good kid, it was an easy job. Until he says four little words: "The baby is mine."

Knowing gossip of Raine's pregnancy will erupt sooner or later in the small town, Gin's reflex is to grab the suitcase and escape to a new city, a new life. But with each passing day, Gin's feet stay rooted in Banister Falls, and she falls a little more for this local firefighter who shows her not all men abandon women at the first sign of smoke.

As Gin and Dan do the best they can to guide the two teenagers through their early entry into adulthood, they discover together that romance can bloom in the rockiest of situations. And God can turn the pieces of a broken past into a beautiful new beginning.

My Opinion

This book features a major issue that is affecting relationships, parents and young adults a lot these days: unwed pregnancy, teenage pregnancy, and the stress that ensues afterwards between relationships. It is not the ideal thing that parents want to hear from their young children but this book faces the issue head on and really details a great way to face it, deal with it and build relationships instead of break them down.

I love the double romances that happen in this book. It is also filled with stress, hurt, pain, love and so much more and it such a great book! Kathryn Springer writes with passion and had me reading nonstop from the beginning of the book til the end!

This is a great contemporary romance that manages to talk about serious issues while also including romance, love, and faith. I highly recommend!

Book Review: All's Fair in Love and Cupcakes

A book was given for review for my honest opinion. No other compensation was given.

About the book:

Kat Varland has had enough of chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry.

At twenty-six years old, Kat is still living in the shadows of her family in Bayou Bend, Louisiana. Still working shifts at her Aunt Maggie's bakery. Still wondering what to do with her passion for baking and her business degree. And still single.

But when Lucas Brannen, Kat's best friend, signs her up for a reality TV bake-off on Cupcake Combat, everything Kat ever wanted is suddenly dangled in front of her: creative license as a baker, recognition as a visionary . . . and a job at a famous bakery in New York.

As the competition heats up, Lucas realizes he might have made a huge mistake. As much as he wants the best for Kat, the only thing he wants for himself---her---is suddenly in danger of slipping away.

The bright lights of reality cooking wars and the chance at a successful career dazzle Kat's senses and Lucas is faced with a difficult choice: help his friend achieve her dreams . . . or sabotage her chances to keep her in Louisiana.

My Opinion

I am a huge fan of Food Network and the Cupcake Wars show so when I saw this book is based on cupcakes and a cupcake competition, I was instantly excited to read it! However, I didn't know if it would hold my attention or be a good read...or just fluff.

And I am so excited to tell you that this book was amazing from start to finish! It was a fun, romantic, Christian book that had me never wanting to put it down until the very end!

I loved the friendship between Lucas and Kat because that is how my husband and I started our relationship - he was my best friend for four years before we started dating so I totally could relate to Lucas and Kat. I loved watching their relationship finally move to the next level and their relationship grow and strengthen.

This book was overall very well written and so fun to read! I highly recommend if you like cupcakes and love! :)
