Book Review: Trust My Heart

A book was given for review for my honest opinion. No other compensation was given.

About the book:

Grant McAllister arrives in Murphy, North Carolina, with one aim: to sell his inherited property and leave as quickly as possible.

The big-city lawyer has no interest in his late, estranged grandparents or the dilapidated mansion he just acquired. After his high-profile divorce, he should be avoiding perky reporters, too. But Jami Carlisle is honest, funny, and undeniably appealing.

After breaking up with her safe-but-smothering boyfriend, Jami is determined to ace her first big assignment. A story about the McAllister estate is too intriguing to ignore---much like its handsome, commitment-phobic heir. Thanks to her digging, the pieces of Grant's fraught family history are gradually fitting into place, but also upending all his old beliefs.

The two draw closer as they share their dreams, until misread signals and misunderstandings begin to test their trust. But in the unspoiled beauty of the Smoky Mountains, there's healing and forgiveness to be found. And for Grant, this unplanned detour may be just what's needed to finally guide him home...

About the author:

From medical secretary to court reporter to property manager to owner of a special-events decorating company, Carol J. Post's résumé reads as if she hasn't yet decided what she wants to be when she grows up. But one thing that has remained constant through the years is her love of writing. She started as a child composing poetry for family and friends, then graduated to articles for religious and children's publications. Now she pens fun, fast-paced inspirational romance and romantic suspense stories. Her books have been nominated for an RT Reviewers' Choice Best Book award and selected as an RT Top Pick. When Carol isn't writing, she enjoys sailing, hiking, camping---almost anything outdoors. She also plays the piano and sings with her music-minister husband. Their two grown daughters and their grandkids live too far away for her liking, so she now pours all her nurturing into taking care of a fat and sassy black cat and a highly spoiled dachshund.

My Opinion

With as busy as I am finishing up school, working on my blog, being a housewife and mother of 3 and working part time outside the home as an athletic trainer, there is nothing that gives me a break better than a great romance book.

And when I finally found the time to sit down, relax and read a book, I am so glad I grabbed Trust My Heart! It was exactly the kind of book I needed to rest my busy brain! I loved watching Jami and Grant's story unfold and fall in love with them as they learn to trust and love again! It was exactly the kind of sweet love story that I needed and Carol Post did a great job writing it! Can't wait to read more books by her!

Book Review: Jilted

A book was given for review for my honest opinion. No other compensation was given.

About the book:

Lynda Turner has struggled with depression since her husband abandoned her and their young daughter fifteen years ago.

Yet unexpected hope awakens when a local ex-convict shows interest. As long-hidden secrets resurface, Lynda must fight for her emotional stability and for a life where the shadow of shame is replaced by the light of love.

Jilted tells of a woman who has lost the joy of living, a man determined to draw her back toward happiness, and a town that must---once and for all---leave the past where it belongs. It is a gentle reminder that all things can work together for good.

About the author:

Varina Denman is author of the Mended Hearts series and a native Texan. She spent her high school years in a rural town and now writes stories about the struggles women face in similar small town settings. She and her husband live near Fort Worth, where they enjoy spending time with their five mostly grown children.

My Opinion

Varina Denman is a new author for me but when I saw she had written a whole series about small town life, I couldn't wait to read it! I love a good book series and I also grew up in small towns so I knew I would be able to relate!

I really, truly enjoyed the Mended Hearts series, especially book #3 Jilted. I really do recommend you read all three books in the series to get the most out of each book and also because they are REALLY GOOD!

In Jilted, I really enjoyed learning more about Lynda and watching her faith grow through continuous challenges! Reading this book reminded me that God always has a plan for our lives even when we feel in the depths of despair with no way out! We must trust and take little steps towards living again and God will be with us every step of the way!

These books were inspirational, romantic, nerve-racking and overall REALLY GOOD! I enjoyed each one and am sad to be done with the series!

Buy It:

You can purchase Jilted for $14.99 from Amazon.com

Book Review: Her One and Only

A product was given for review for my honest opinion. No other compensation was given.

About the book:

After ten years in the NFL, super star Gray Fowler is accustomed to obsessive fans.

But when Gray starts receiving death threats from a stalker, his team hires an executive protection agency to guard him until the culprit is caught. Dealing with bodyguards 24/7 is a headache, especially when one of them is a young, beautiful woman. How can a female half his size possibly protect him better than he can protect himself?

Dru Porter is a former Marine, an expert markswoman, and a black belt---none of which saved her from disaster on her last assignment. In order to rebuild her tarnished reputation, she's determined to find Gray's stalker and, since relationships between agents and clients are forbidden, avoid a romantic attachment between herself and the rugged football player with the mysterious past.

Yet every secret that leads Dru closer to the stalker also draws her closer to Gray. As the danger escalates, they'll survive only if they can learn to trust their lives---and their hearts---to one another.

About the author:

Becky Wade is a native of California who attended Baylor University, met and married a Texan, and now lives in Dallas. A favorite among readers of Christian contemporary romance, Becky has won a Carol Award, an Inspirational Reader's Choice Award, and an INSPY Award.

My Opinion

Let me just start out saying there has never been a Becky Wade book that I didn't love! I am so happy to say that Her One and Only was no exception!

I absolutely love Dru being a strong female character that has to watch over a man and protect him! I love that Becky flipped the typical gender roles! And Gray being a football fan was another plus for me! Two of my favorite things: football and strong females!

And then you add in Becky Wade's amazing writing skills - there was no way this book could go wrong and it didn't! I love every book in this series about the Porters and this was a great book to finish off the series. Although, I am very sad to say goodbye to the Porters!

Pick up a Becky Wade book today and you won't be sorry you took the time to read her books!

Book Review: The Hearts We Mend

A book was given for review for my honest opinion. No other compensation was given.

About the book:

Planning and Post-It notes are the epitome of Evie's life. But when she meets Jack, her life gets more than a little complicated.

Thirteen years ago, Evie's firefighter husband was killed in the line of duty, leaving her to raise their young son, Cody, alone. Now, Cody is marrying the love of his life, and as he packs up his belongings, the house feels as empty as Evie's heart. But for all her planning and mad organizational skills, Evie could never have anticipated the dramatic shift her life is about to make.

Tattooed, rough-around-the-edges Jack raises quite a few eyebrows in the tight-knit community of Banister Falls. Where Evie's life is stream-lined, Jack's approach to living is moment-by-moment. But as Evie gets drawn into Jack's world---a world that isn't as safe or predictable as the one she's worked so hard to create---he challenges her to open her eyes to the problems outside the walls of the church.

Jack doesn't make Evie feel comfortable, but he definitely makes her feel something. Something she hasn't felt since Max passed away---or, maybe ever. Because even though Jack isn't anything like her late husband, he just might be everything she needs.

About the author:

Kathryn Springer is a USA Today bestselling author. She grew up in northern Wisconsin, where her parents published a weekly newspaper. As a child she spent many hours sitting at her mother's typewriter, plunking out stories, and credits her parents for instilling in her a love of books --- which eventually turned into a desire to tell stories of her own. Kathryn has written nineteen books with close to two million copies sold. She lives with her husband and three children in Marinette, Wisconsin.

My Opinion

I loved reading this second book in the Banister Falls series. The first book, The Dandelion Field, was so good and The Hearts We Mend was just as good! I loved reading more about the characters from the first book and finding out what and how they are doing!

Plus, we got to look deeper into Evie who was introduced in The Dandelion Field. I loved watching her relationship with Jack develop and evolve. Their story lines and history is so heartbreaking at times but through all their life trials they held onto their faith and trust in God. Their faith is admirable and really reminded me of how important trusting God is in all situations!

Kathryn Springer writes with humor, love, passion, and trial and I enjoyed the journey of getting to know Evie and Jack and their families every step of the way! I can't wait for the next Ballister Falls novel!!!!

My Opinion

Regina Jennings always writes the most fun-filled, lighthearted romances and I love sitting down to read them when I need a mental break from the stresses of life!

At Love's Bidding was such a fun read and I love the look into early auction houses - both household items and livestock auctions. This book was a great romance with many funny moments, mystery, intrigue, family relationship issues and so much more! She really packed a lot into this easy to read, lighthearted book!

Always a pleasure to read a Regina Jennings book!

Book Review: Crazy Little Thing Called Love

A book was given for review for my honest opinion. No other compensation was given.

About the book:

Wedding bells and storm clouds collide in the first engaging novel in a brand-new series about destination weddings, the power of love, and the possible mishaps and missteps that happen on a couple's journey down the aisle to "I do."

Paramedic Vanessa Hollister has put her adolescence behind her, including the unwanted label of being the new kid in town over and over again, thanks to her father's military career. She's overcome what her mother called "the biggest mistake of her life" and is planning an elegant destination wedding in Destin, Florida with her new fiancé. But will the reappearance of her first husband from her what-were-you-thinking teenage elopement disrupt her dream of an idyllic beach wedding?

As a professional storm chaser, Logan Hollister is used to taking risks. However, a reckless decision during the last tornado season has him questioning the future of his team, the Stormmeisters. Coming face to face with his ex-wife eight years after their divorce compels him to confront his greatest regret: losing Vanessa. Does their past give him the right to interfere with her future?

A fast-moving, powerful hurricane throws Vanessa and Logan together as they evacuate to a storm shelter along with other residents of the Florida Gulf Coast. Forced to spend time together, the pair battles unexpected renewed feelings for each other.

Vanessa and Logan are faced with a choice: Should they accept, once and for all, their teenage marital mistake? Or is God offering them a second chance at happily ever after?

About the author:

Beth K. Vogt believes God's best often waits behind the doors marked "Never." A 2015 RITA® Finalist and a 2014 Carol Award finalist, Beth is a contemporary romance novelist with Howard Books. Her 2014 novel, Somebody Like You, was one of Publisher's Weekly's Best Books of 2014. In 2015 she introduced her destination wedding series with both an e-novella, Can't Buy Me Love, (May) and a novel, Crazy Little Thing Called Love (June).

My Opinion

I always wanted a destination wedding (and now hope to renew my vows someday in a destination wedding!), so when I saw this new book from Beth K. Vogt, I was so excited to live vicariously through these characters!

And I definitely wasn't disappointed! It was such a romantic love story and I loved watching how God used "the biggest mistake" of their life to actually be what God wanted in the end.

It was a great lesson to trust God even when some circumstances seem like a mistake. I loved watching Vanessa and Logan fall in love all over again and Beth K. Vogt writes a book that is irresistible and a page turner from beginning to end!

If you want a great love story that is also a great reminder to trust God through everything, this book is the one for YOU!

Book Review: Beyond the Ashes

A book was given for review for my honest opinion. No other compensation was given.

About the book:

Where better to rebuild and face one's fears than in 1906 San Francisco, a city rising from the ashes?

Ruby Marshall, a young widow, is certain she'll discover new purpose assisting her brother Robert with his cancer research, but she doesn't anticipate finding new love.

Dr. Gerald Larkspur dreams of filling his empty home with family, but he'd always hoped it would be a wife and children. In the aftermath of the great earthquake, the rooms are overflowing with extended family and friends left homeless by the disaster. When Robert's widowed sister arrives, the close quarters seem close indeed.

Ruby and Gerald's fledgling romance is put at risk when Gerald develops symptoms of the very disease they're striving to cure. Together they must ask---is it worth a second chance at love when time might be short?

About the author:

Karen Barnett is the author of Beyond the Ashes, Out of the Ruins, and Mistaken. Named the 2013 Writer of Promise by Oregon Christian Writers, Karen lives in Albany, Oregon, with her husband and two kids. When she's not writing novels, she loves speaking at women's events, libraries, and book clubs.

My Opinion

I am a HUGE fan of the first book in this series, Out of the Ruins and was waiting so anxiously for Beyond the Ashes to come out because the first book ends with the story still to continue!

I am so glad to learn more about Dr. Gerald Larkspur in this book along with Ruby. I also love learning about how San Francisco continued to rebuild after the earthquakes and fires!

As always, Karen Barnett writes with such description and talent that I am instantly sucked into the book for hours and can't put it down! Sadly, this books ends with a cliffhanger "to be continued" ending as well so now I wait for the third book to come out NOT so patiently!!! :)

Book Review: Betting on Hope

A book was given for review for my honest opinion. No other compensation was given.

About the book:

A bet gone wrong. A small town's meddling. And a cowboy intent on saving his ranch.

Maggie Hope is an advice columnist whose background leaves her with little advice to give . . . and it's beginning to show. When Maggie fills in at an interview with champion horse trainer Tru Monahan, the on-camera chemistry between them is undeniable. Maggie's bosses know this is the opportunity she's been looking for to launch her career---and their bank accounts. In order to save her column, Maggie takes Tru up on the bet that he can teach her to ride a quick-stepping cutting horse like any cowgirl, despite the fact that she has never been on a horse. And in the meantime, she can get the scoop on the man under the cowboy hat.

Tru has been on the competition circuit for longer than he'd like, but he knows it's the only way he can afford to keep the Four of Hearts Ranch that means so much to his ailing grandfather. So when his sponsors see the opportunity for Tru's fans to get to know the star on a more intimate level, he knows he must oblige. To his dismay, Maggie not only invades his small town of Wishing Springs, but she also invades his heart, and that is something he cannot let any woman do-for her own good.

In Wishing Springs, Maggie finds what she has always been looking for: a community and a home. But when her past catches up to her, it threatens everything, even the tender hope that this town holds all of her heart's desires.

About the author:

Debra Clopton is a multi-award winning novelist and has written more than 22 novels. Along with writing, Debra helps her husband teach the youth at their local Cowboy Church. Debra's goal is to shine a light toward God while she entertains readers with her words.

My Opinion

Nothing is better than a good ole' cowboy book!!! And Betting on Hope was definitely one of those great cowboy books!

This book was really well written, a true romance and one I couldn't put down!

Book Review: Love Without End

A book was given for review for my honest opinion. No other compensation was given.

About the book:

A King's Meadow Romance
(Thomas Nelson, November 2014)

Chet and Kimberly have both failed when it comes to love. Will they risk their hearts to love again?

Chet Leonard's life was forever changed when his 17-year-old son died and then, soon after, his wife walked out on their family. Over two years later, all he wants to do is hold onto his horse ranch and raise his remaining sons to be honorable men.

Kimberly Welch, widowed mother of Tara, a rebellious 15-year-old, has reached the end of her finances and nearly the end of her rope. She and Tara come to King's Meadow to try to piece their lives back together again. Kimberly has no intention of becoming involved with the residents of this remote mountain community and certainly not with any man.

When octogenarian Anna McKenna returns to King's Meadow and to the Leonard ranch, she becomes an agent of change and healing for the two hurting families. With her help, Kimberly and Chet may discover that true love has no end.

About the author:

Best-selling novelist Robin Lee Hatcher is known for her heart-warming and emotionally charged stories of faith, courage, and love. The winner of the Christy Award for Excellence in Christian Fiction, the RITA Award for Best Inspirational Romance, two RT Career Achievement Awards, and the RWA Lifetime Achievement Award, Robin is the author of over sixty novels.

My Opinion

Robin Lee Hatcher is one of those authors that when you hear her name or see it on a book, you know it is going to be a good one!

I absolutely LOVED one of Hatcher's other books, A Promise Kept, where they briefly mentioned Chet Leonard and his life woes. It was just enough of a mention to really pique my interest and make me really excited for this book!

The two books are very different story lines and can definitely be read separately and not together!

Although this book is different, it is equally good. Love Without End features one of my favorite types of characters...a cowboy! I loved visualizing Chet's ranch, his sons, and his handsome cowboy ways! Growing up in Montana made me a huge fan of cowboys! :)

Although these characters are older in age, love does not have to be something they can't experience anymore! There are definitely second chances in love and that is the theme of this book!

Overall, I highly recommend this book and all books by Robin Lee Hatcher! She definitely knows how to tell a story so that you won't want to put it down!

Book Review: The Brickmaker's Bride

A book was given for review for my honest opinion. No other compensation was given.

About the book:

Bestselling Author Judith Miller Debuts Historical Series Set in West Virginia

Yearning for a fresh start, Ewan McKay travels with his aunt and uncle from northern Scotland to West Virginia, promising to trade his skills in the clay business for financial assistance from his uncle Hugh. Hugh purchases a brickmaking operation from a Civil War widow and her daughter, but it's Ewan who gets the business up and running again. Ewan seeks help from Laura, the former owner's daughter, and he feels a connection with her, but she's being courted by another man---a lawyer with far more social clout and money than Ewan. Besides, Ewan has resolved he'll focus on making the brickmaking operation enough of a success that he can become a partner in the business and be able to afford to bring his sisters over from Scotland.

But when Hugh signs a bad business deal, all Ewan's hard work may come to naught. As his plans begin to crumble, Laura reveals something surprising. She and her mother may have a way to save the brickworks, and in turn Ewan may have another shot at winning Laura's heart.

About the author:

Judith Miller is an award-winning author whose avid research and love for history are reflected in her bestselling novels. When time permits, Judy enjoys traveling, visiting historical settings, and scrapbooking the photographs from her travel expeditions. She makes her home in Topeka, Kansas.

My Opinion

I love reading about the Civil War era but it was a little different in this book because it was a look at the Post-Civil War era. I loved the look into immigration post-Civil War and the brickmaking world.

And I also loved the Christian themes woven into the story especially trusting in God's timing.

Judith Miller is one classic author that never lets me down for a good book and she has done it once again!

Book Review: The Promise

A book was given for review for my honest opinion. No other compensation was given.

About the book:

Mallory's search for happiness leads her to a faraway place. There she finds heartache, betrayal---and danger.

Mallory Hammond is determined that no one will stand in the way of her goal---to save a life. She had that chance years ago, and she failed to take it, leaving her adrift and in search of the real meaning of her life. Finally, she meets a man online from a volatile corner of the world who offers her the chance to find that purpose. But she will have to leave everyone she loves behind in order to take it.

Tate Webber has loved Mallory for many years. He understands that Mallory will never be happy with him until her deepest heart's desire is satisfied. When Mallory decides to travel across the world to fulfill her dreams, Tate begs her not to go but tries to give her the space she needs. Mallory embarks on her dangerous journey only to discover how swiftly and easily promises can be broken. And Mallory can only pray that she will make it out alive.

Inspired by actual events, The Promise is a riveting love story that asks the question: how far will we go for love?

My Opinion

First of all, I love that this book is based on actual events! It just makes a book that more interesting when you know it really happened!

I have read many of Beth Wiseman's books before so I had high expectations for this book and they were met. I like that this one was different than most of her other Amish based books.

I was initially drawn to this book by the beautiful cover and description and was kept reading for hours and hours because of the suspense and love that centers this book!

Beth Wiseman does not disappoint again!

In a daring new novel, Beth Wiseman jumps way outside the box. The Promise will take readers far away from Amish country and small Texas towns to a dangerous place on the other side of the world. Inspired by actual events, this is the book Beth has been working toward for a long time.
