 PBS Distribution announced recently it is releasing “WILD KRATTS: SHARK-TASTIC” on DVD April 14. “SHARK-TASTIC” includes four episodes of the PBS KIDS hit series WILD KRATTS, two of which are bonus episodes! From learning about the favorite prey of great white sharks, to gaining insight into how dolphins communicate, kids will be exposed to fascinating facts about sharks and other sea creatures in this fun-filled DVD. Animals highlighted in these four stories include a hawksbill turtle, dolphins, a tiger shark, a giant pacific octopus, great white sharks, a bowhead whale, a manta ray and many more.

In each episode of WILD KRATTS, creature teachers Chris and Martin Kratt take kids and their families along on extraordinary animal-powered adventures. The show transforms the Kratt Brothers, creators of the award-winning KRATTS’ CREATURES and Emmy-winning ZOBOOMAFOO, into animated versions of themselves, allowing the real-life zoologists to visit wild animals in their little-seen habit ats and showcase key science concepts along the way. WILD KRATTS airs weekdays on PBS KIDS (check local listings).

“Octopus Wildkratticus”

When Martin accidentally knocks the creature power suits into a deep Arctic trench, Aviva takes the brothers to search for them in her brand-new octopod submarine. But after the gang encounters what seems to be a very strange new species of underwater octopus, they figure out that something has gone very wrong in the deep sea. In order to set things right, the Wild Kratts team must employ all the amazing superpowers that an octopus has for survival, including ink defense, jet propulsion, tentacle regeneration, and camouflage.

“Tortuga Tune Up”

Aviva loves the Tortuga design, but feels there’s something missing. Martin and Chris realize it can’t really swim, so they decide to get some bio inspiration for this feature by exploring the world of the sea turtles.

“Speaking Dolphinese”

The Wild Kratts team is on a mission to decode the secret language of the dolphin with one of Aviva’s new inventions, but a hungry great white shark puts their new animal friends in harm’s way.

“Stuck on Sharks”

Martin and Chris are on a mission to uncover the secret life of the mysterious great white shark. They use Aviva’s incredible remora rocketsub to “stick with” a female shark and soon learn that the giant predator actually has lots of challenges to contend with and that she could help them discover something that no one has ever seen before – the birth of great white shark pups. But when Gourmand sniffs around looking for ingredients for his shark fin soup recipe, the Wild Kratts team must help rescue their new friend.

My children absolutely LOVE Wild Kratts but they also really love sharks! So this was the perfect match! They have watched this DVD several times already and loved it every time! They have learned so much each time and I love that they are learning so many great animal facts!

My son's favorite animal these days is Sharks so I knew he would love this DVD and he DID! My husband and my son were glued to the screen and fascinated with all the facts they learned about Sharks! This Shark Collection DVD is very interesting, fact filled and enlightening and it was a huge hit in our house!

Amazing Earth & Oceanic DVD's Review

Nature shows are a HUGE hit in our house, as I have mentioned before! We really enjoy to watch them on our weekly Family Popcorn and Movie night on Sunday nights!

Our latest favorites are the two great DVD's from Discovery Channel: Amazing Earth and Oceanic.

Raccoon Nation DVD Review

EXPLORE HOW SMART, ADAPTABLE AND OMNIVOROUS URBAN RACCOONS ARE THRIVING IN “NATURE: RACCOON NATION”

When the lights go down in cities across North America, another world is revealed, populated by shady little characters that live alongside us, but exist in the margins. These pint-size problem solvers are smart, adaptable and omnivorous, and they love a good challenge. Welcome to the world of urban raccoons. With their busy little hands, they can do what other would-be urban animals can’t – open doors, get into attics, and raid secured trash cans. And they are especially fond of big cities, like Chicago, New York, and Toronto – the raccoon capital of the world. In cities everywhere, wherever they’ve been introduced, they have done very, very well. Using both night-vision cameras and raccoon-proof radio collars, scientists set out to learn about their hidden, intimate world. The DVD and Blu-ray release of this program became available on March 13, 2012. The program has a running time of 60 minutes.

Following a family of urban raccoons over the course of six months as the young leave their den high in a tree and head down dark alleyways and haunts with their mother, high-definition cameras and intensive GPS tracking reveal new insights about a species that is far more elusive and wily than most people ever imagined, and more destructive.

The question being asked in this film is - "Are people, in an effort to outwit raccoons, actually making them smarter and unwittingly contributing to their evolutionary success?" Are the ever more complex obstacles that our fast-paced, urban world throws at them actually pushing the development of raccoon brains?

My Opinion

Ever since my son was very little, he has LOVED animals - watching them, learning about them, making their noises and watching TV and movies about them! He definitely gets it from his dad who is also fascinated with watching animal shows and learning about them!

When I saw that Raccoon Nation was recently released on DVD, I knew it would be a HUGE hit in our house - especially since my husband thinks we have a raccoon living under our deck!! :)

This movie was really informative and interesting and I found my husband exclaiming more than once, "Oh really??", "I knew it!", and "I told you it was a raccoon under our deck!". My son just sat there intrigued and he really loved learning all about raccoons - an animal he can commonly see in his own back yard! He still talks about what he learned...especially every time he sees one outside!

If your family loves learning about animals, their habits and want a family friendly movie to watch, check out Raccoon Nation. It really is an informative, fun and really interesting movie!
