Happy Heiny's One Size Pocket Cloth Diaper Review

Happy Heinys from Thanks Mama uses its own custom milled fleece and high quality products in the manufacturing of its products. The diaper fits most babies from about 8 lbs- 35 lbs.

Happy Heiny's One Size Pocket Diaper are available in 22 different colors and several different prints. Their prints are unique and designed by their company for use only on their products. Their prints for the one size diapers are made out of the same high quality fabrics that their solids are made out of. The fabrics have been tested to last up to 12 hours at night for most babies.

Happy Heiny's One Size Pocket Diaper also comes with 2 micro fiber inserts - one small and one large insert. You may use either 1 insert or both or more as needed depending on how heavy your little one wets. The hemp stuffins also fit well into the one size diapers.

My Opinion
When I received the Happy Heiny's, I was thrilled to try a diaper that claimed to last 12 hours at night! That is exactly what I need! So I bet you are wondering if it could withstand the massive amounts of pee that my son seems to produce at night!?

Well, sadly I was a little disappointed. I first just tried it at naptime (2 hours only) with an extra insert and extra cover. Thank goodness I added them because he soaked through the inserts and the waterproof cover itself. If I wouldn't have added the extra cover over the top of the diaper, I am guessing the pee would have soaked through his clothes. However, it did hold in some solids wonderfully that my son produced while in this diaper! They did not leak and I was very thankful for that!

Using it while he was awake and for shorter periods of time, it worked just wonderfully. It was easy to use and so soft against my son's skin! It is great that you can just add the inserts ahead of time and then slip the diaper on like a disposable! Great when you have a squirmy one like I do!

Night Time/Nap Time Use: Didn't soak through clothes because of extra cover but the diaper itself was soaked. I wouldn't use at night again.

Day Time Use: This diaper was easy to use and was very soft on the inside! It worked great if I used it for short periods of time while he was awake. I loved that it didn't require a cover (at least for day use with my heavy wetter) thus it was easy to put on and off!

I recommend Happy Heiny's One Size Pocket Diapers for general cloth diapering and for squirmy ones! Just make sure to have some extra inserts and maybe an extra cover if you have a heavy wetter like me!!

Pros: easy to put on, lots of different colors to choose from, one size for all!, soft on the inside, no cover required (but may be needed with heavy wetter), comes with two microfiber inserts

Cons: Didn't hold up for very long without peeing soaking through, didn't hold up to their claim of lasting 12 hours

Buy It: You can purchase Happy Heiny's One Size Pocket Diaper for $18.95 on the Thanks Mama website

Illumenature Soy Candles Review

I love, love, love candles!!! I was so saddened a couple years ago when I found out some of the potentially harmful ingredients in paraffin candles and their wax! I had to throw out all my candles!

But then I found out about soy candles! They are safe and non-toxic...and still smell great! I recently discovered Illumenature Candle Company - they make a lot of great smelling and safe soy candles! I was excited to receive two great smelling candles - Garden Mist and Cherry Tangerine.

Illumenature candles are hand poured using 100% soy wax, as well as premium scented oils & color. Their glass jars are made in the USA.

They also offer a recycling program for used illumenature candles. Each used illumenature candle can be returned to them for $1 credit towards the purchase of a new illumenature candle! How great is that?

My Opinion
I was so excited to receive the Garden Mist and Cherry Tangerine Illumenature Soy Candles. I really wanted to try some different scents (I usually stick with my favorites - cinnamon or vanilla) but I wanted some new scents for summer time! It was so hard to choose because every choice on their site either made my mouth water or sent me to a beautiful garden somewhere! They had so many great options!

As soon as I ripped open the package, I instantly had to smell them! (Yes, I am that person in the store smelling all the candles! :) They were so refreshing and I knew I could smell and burn them without worrying what they were sending into the air for me and my family to breathe!

I recommend Illumenature Soy Candles to all candle lovers! They have so many great, original scents that everyone can love! Plus, they are safe to breathe and smell - unlike other candles!

Pros: 100% soy wax, non-toxic, eco friendly, so many great scent choices, smells heavenly, $1 back when recycling jar back to company

Cons: nothing! I love these candles!

Buy It: You can purchase Illumenature Soy Candles for $11.99 for a 8 oz. candle or $19.99 for a 20 oz. candle at the Illumenature Candle Company website.

Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature Bottle Review

I am always on the lookout for new bottles for my son...because I hate washing bottles everyday and he is pretty picky when it comes to the nipples. So I was pretty excited when Tommee Tippee sent me their Closer to Nature bottle to try out!

Inspired by nature, and developed in conjunction with midwives and breastfeeding moms and babies, Closer to Nature bottles are intuitively designed for easier, more natural feeding. The bottle features a uniquely soft, superwide nipple that naturally flexes and stretches like the breast, and the natural shape lets baby latch on effortlessly, easing transitions between breast and bottle and allowing mom to successfully combine breast and bottle feeding. The bottle shape is simply intuitive, allowing for a more comfortable hold and breastfeeding-like closeness, while the ultra-sensitive anti-colic valve lets babies feed at their own pace with less air, vacuum buildup and nipple collapse, which can help reduce gas and colic while feeding. Nipples are progressively staged in slow, medium, fast and vari-flow rates to meet growing babies’ needs.

My Opinion
When I first opened the Closer to Nature bottles I was so surprised to find that this small compact, easy to hold bottle could hold up to 9 oz of fluid! Finally, a bottle that is easy to hold AND big enough to hold all my baby needs to eat at one time! Plus, it is BPA free and Phthalate free! It is also has a anti-colic, anti-gas, advanced easi-vent valve which I loved! The nipples of the bottles really did look and act similar to a mother's nipple and I bet this would make it really easy to transition back and forth!

Another feature I loved for ease of travel is the nice secure lid. It snapped on and didn't go anywhere when the bottle was thrown into a bag or jostled around. I hate bottle lids that don't snap on and stay on and I didn't have to worry about that with Tommee Tippee's lids!

I did notice that their was a little vaccuum created while my son was drinking but it was always fine if I just took the bottle out of his mouth for a second. I only wish that I had some medium nipples to try with it because the slow (that were included) was just a tad slow for my son and the fast nipples they sent along just made him choke because it came out too fast for him.

I recommend Closer to Nature bottles for anyone who bottle and breastfeeds and wants to make it an easy transition for their baby. These bottles are also great for travel because they are small and compact but still hold a lot!

Pros: BPA and Phlatate free, small and compact but still hold 9 oz., nipples are similar to breastfeeding, wide neck nipple for easier latch on, anti-colic, anti-gas, advanced easi-vent valve, lids stay on securely

Cons: there were some vaccuum build-up issues but nothing too bad

Buy It: You can purchase Closer to Nature bottles for $7.99 at Babies "R" Us.

CC Bums Fleece Soaker Review

I needed a solution for nighttime leaking with my excessive wetter...and I finally found it at CC Bums!

Cami Court is the owner of CC Bums and is a full time mom of 3 girls and full time owner of CC Bums. On May 15, 2009, she "opened shop" as CC Bums (Cami's Courts Bums). She has since added a LOT to her line of products, and constantly gets requests for more items that she doesn't currently stock. The complete store is on Facebook and there are lots of pictures of products she has available like cloth diapers, cloth wipes, wet bags, covers, breast pads, teethers and much, much more!

My Opinion
I received a fleece pull on soaker in a cute dog print from CC Bums. I was so excited to try it out because I needed something to put over cloth or disposable diapers at night to keep the leaks in. Since he really only leaked through the legs or top of diapers I knew this cover would work great because it had a little longer cloth in the legs and top!

It was so easy to put on! I just pulled it over the top of his diaper when he was ready for bed and that was it! He was dry every time he used it - overnight and for naps! It was the easiest solution to my nighttime leaking problems! Plus, it was so cute!

The other great part about the fleece soaker is that it is easy to wash and dry unlike some other covers available out there (wool covers) but still performs just as well!

I recommend CC Bums products for all eco-friendly, green, and mothers that like to use non-toxic and safe products! You will love her covers and I am sure you will love her huge selection of other cloth items!

Pros: easy to put on, stays on over diapers, very soft fleece material, cute design, held in leaks, easy to wash and dry, I loved the longer legs and tummy parts that held in leaks!

Cons: My only regret is that this soaker will soon be too small to fit over any diaper so I won't be able to use it anymore!

Buy It: You can purchase fleece pull on soakers like mine for $10 on CC Bums facebook page.

FlirtyDivaTee Review and Giveaway

THIS GIVEAWAY IS CLOSED

I am a t-shirt addict. I still have t-shirts from high school - and I love them! But, I thought it was time to maybe get some new ones! I finally have a cute tee from FlirtyDivaTees that I can wear with anything and it really says what I am thinking!

FlirtyDivaTees is made with a different process than other warehouses selling online. Other companies make their stuff with a screen printing process using thick (environmentally awful) paints and they produce them on baggy ill-fitting t-shirts. FlirtyDivaTees are 100% cotton tops are not produced that way. The words are created with a super soft lettering application that is applied to the shirt with a heat bonding process. We've chosen the best soft, sexy, classy feminine fitting high quality earth friendly t-shirts available - most are organically dyed. The images on their shirts do not fade, crack, wear-out or fall off. They are also unconditionally guaranteed!

When you buy a FlirtyDivaTee you are getting the best in quality shirt and the best process available to create the words and graphics.

My Opinion
I received the "Sleep Deprived" tee. I was so excited to receive a new t-shirt - and it was so cute and so true! I can now warn people before they talk or interact with me without having to use words! I love it!

The shirt was really comfortable to wear and I got many comments while I wore it out and about! The only thing I regret is that I got too big of a size and it didn't fit as well as I would have liked. Guess I have lost more weight than I thought! :o) It is a little baggy but it is still great to wear to bed or just out and about.

I recommend FlirtyDivaTee to all women and girls! They have such cute and funny sayings that you are sure to find one that fits your personality or state of mind.

Pros: I loved the sayings and quotes on the shirts, soft fabric, love that they are earth-friendly and organically dyed, great selection!, unconditionally guaranteed!

Cons: I think it was more my fault for ordering too big of a size...but I wish it would have fit me a little more tighter and hugged more curves like they claim to. Keep in mind that you have the option on all t-shirts on the website for ordering either style - the soft style tee or the less fitted tee. You just need to go to the sizing chart and choose according to that.

Buy It: You can purchase a FlirtyDivaTee for $21.99 (many are on sale for $19.99!) for most tees on the FlirtyDivaTee website

Win It: FlirtyDivaTee is generously offering (1) t-shirt of your choice to a lucky winner!

Making a Case for Life Book Tour

Making a Case for Life is a new parenting/family/social needs book by Stephanie Wincik. Whether you are a parent, grandparent, or newly pregnant, you know that most prospective parents hold high expectations for their offspring. Superior intelligence, physical beauty, excellent health, and outstanding athletic ability are just a few of the qualities we dream our children will be born with. Since contemporary society tends to value these qualities above all others, it is only natural for us to hope our children possess the attributes that will provide them with the greatest opportunity for a successful life.

But what if your child arrives with a different set of qualities—a combination of traits that the world views as a disability? What if you are told that your child will have Down syndrome? What happens to your dream of producing the perfect child? Nothing need happen to your dream. You only need to alter your definition of perfection.

This book explores the myth of the perfect child, along with a number of popularly-held yet erroneous beliefs about the negative impact of giving birth to a child with Down syndrome. At the same time, you will begin to develop a new perspective on which characteristics are truly the most desirable in a changing world. As our society becomes increasingly self-absorbed, materialistic, and violent, the new human beings entering the world will need a fresh arsenal of personal qualities if our planet is to survive and thrive.

Here is an excerpt from the book:
"For example, one of the most frequently cited reasons given for the termination of a Down syndrome pregnancy is that the birth of a disabled child would cause undue stress and hardship for the parents. But—and this may come as a surprise to some—first-hand accounts shared by parents of these individuals suggest that this scenario is rarely the case. In fact, the vast majority of families report that living with an individual with Down syndrome is a decidedly positive aspect of their lives.

Ongoing medical problems for the person with Down syndrome is another common concern. Many believe that every individual with Down syndrome is destined for a lifetime of sensory deficits, cardiac disease, dementia, and premature death. However, advances in medicine in recent decades have dramatically improved the health of these individuals throughout their life span, and in turn their life expectancy has significantly increased as well."

My Opinion
This book was such an eye opener for me! Throughout my time as a mother and health professional, I have not had to meet or treat any Down Sydrome patients, children, or adults. I just haven't had much contact with them. Therefore, I held many of the same fears of the unknown that Stephanie talks about in this book!

This book helped me face many of my fears and debunk many of the myths I have always thought about Down Syndrome. It also opened my eyes to a very scary fact - 90% of Down Syndrome babies are being aborted! I couldn't believe it! To me that is so sad and so needless! It made me want to learn as much as I could about Down Syndrome so that if some day I or someone I know is faced with that kind of decision, they will have all the facts and not just the myths society puts out there!

This book was great! I loved every minute of reading it! It broke down all the myths and brought out the facts about Down Syndrome in an easy to read but informative way! I learned a lot and I am glad I read it. It is definitely going to go in my library to reference for future situations and also to pass on to other friends and family that are ever facing a situation dealing with Down Syndrome!

I recommend this book to all people - young, old, man, or woman! It is a must read for all people so that we stop segregating, ostricizing, and, most importantly, aborting Down Syndrome babies! It will open your eyes to many truths about Down Syndrome you never knew before!

Pros: easy to read, broken down into helpful sections, great interviews with Down Syndrome individuals and their families, great information that is helpful to anyone that needs or wants to learn about Down Syndrome

Cons: The only thing I can say is I wish she would have kept on writing! :o) The information was fascinating, informative, and helpful and I didn't want the book to end!

Buy It: You can purchase this book on Stephanie Wincik's website for $9.99

* Thank you to Pump Up Your Book and Stephanie Wincik for this book for review!

Thirsties Duo Diaper Review and Giveaway

THIS GIVEAWAY IS CLOSED

Thirsties is a small (but growing!) cloth diaper company committed to greener parenting and eco friendly solutions, not to mention 100% USA made quality! Their diapers are made by work at home mothers, and very close to their Canon City warehouse, reducing their carbon output. They donate to Miracle Diapers, a company in which one can apply for free or low cost diapers to those with financial need. Their diapers are made of a Micro Fleece that is very soft to the touch.

Thirsties Duo Diapers are easy to use and even easier on your wallet! The adjustable rise of this diaper design means one size will last twice as long. In fact, you'll only need two sizes to cover your baby from birth all the way to potty-learning.

Similar in feel and fit as their best selling Duo Wrap, Thirsties Duo Diapers are completely waterproof yet remain breathable, pliable, and very comfortable for your baby's delicate skin. The ultra-soft microfleece liner on the inside protects baby's skin from wetness and also resists staining. Their handy sleeve design features openings on both sides of the diaper between the microfleece and waterproof layer. The duo openings featured in Thirsties Duo Diaper enable easy insert stuffing from either side of the diaper and also make for easy cleaning. There is no need to remove the soiled inserts when washing-your hands will remain clean! Simply toss your soiled Thirsties Duo Diaper in the laundry and the inserts will agitate free from the diaper in the washing machine.

My Opinion
Thirsties Duo Diapers are really easy to use even for the occasional caretaker. You just simply stuff the insert in the sleeve of the diaper and wrap around your baby. It is nice because you can do it before you have to wrestle with a baby so it is just like putting on a disposable. The durable hook-and-loop closures of Thirsties Duo Diaper provide a perfect and secure fit at every diaper change. Thirsties' signature leg gussets provide advanced leak-proof protection and the bindings are super soft against your baby's skin. They also offer convenient fold-over laundry tabs to protect your hook-and-loop closures from trapping lint in the wash.

Night Time Use: I do not recommend this diaper for overnight use. The cover is very thin and liquid leaks through it easily. No matter how many inserts I use it still leaked - if not through the actual cover, it leaked through the leg holes.

Day Time Use: Using this diaper during the day is especially easy - may be one of the easiest I have! It was nice to stick in the insert ahead of time and then just wrap it on like a regular disposable! It is really nice when I have such a squirmy one!

I recommend these Thirsties Duo Diaper for newbie cloth diaperers and for mothers of wiggly little ones (like me!) It is easy to put on but don't leave it on too long - it will leak!

Babee Greens Growing Greens Cloth Diaper

Now here is a diaper that is very unique! Check out the Babee Greens Growing Greens cotton diaper. Growing Greens is their original one size diaper fitting most babies 5-35 lbs. The two part diaper system is constructed entirely from the softest fleece knit, 100% unbleached cotton thread and natural rubber elastic. The functionality of the two part snap in design creates a trim, multi-fit diaper that enalbes a thorough cleanse and quick drying time. My Opinion
The Babee Greens diaper was very soft to the touch and I loved that it had no PVC and was 100% organic cotton! I felt my baby's skin was very safe when he wore this diaper!
Night Time Use: Leaked through diaper and cover! I do not recommend this diaper for overnight

Day Time Use: This diaper held up even when my son pooped and peed in it. I recommend using a very good cover though because it seems to soak up fluids quickly. However, it didn't leak through the legs or the tops.

I recommend these Babee Greens Growing Greens Cloth Diaper for short term use and they are great for poopy messes too! This diaper was one of the best I have for when he poops.
