The Raising by Laura Kasischke

The Raising: A Novel (P.S.)

Laura Kasischke explores death and dying in her new novel THE RAISING (Harper Perennial, March 2011).

With THE RAISING, Laura Kasischke explores the often unanswerable questions that surround the loss of a loved one and the ramifications death can have on those personally connected. She extensively researched the cultural perception ofdeath, dying and the afterlife and made some startling discoveries.

Critically-acclaimed and nationally-bestselling author Laura Kasischke’s upcoming release, THE RAISING, is a terrifying and powerful new novel that is part Stephen King, part Donna Tartt, and wholly unforgettable.

Last year Godwin Honors Hall was draped in black. The university was mourning the loss of one of its own: Nicole Werner, a blond, beautiful, straight-A sorority sister tragically killed in a car accident that left her boyfriend, who was driving, remarkably—some say suspiciously—unscathed.

Although a year has passed, as winter begins and the nights darken, obsession with Nicole and her death reignites: She was so pretty. So sweet-tempered. So innocent. Too young to die.

Unless she didn’t.

Because rumor has it that she’s back.

My Opinion
I was a little hesistant to read this book because it is a different genre than what I usually choose and like to read.

However, it turned out to be a pretty good read! It definitely kept my attention throughout the book and had me guessing what would happen next. The topics discussed have really stuck with me many days after I finished reading it!

However, a couple warnings...I would categorize this book as a R-rated book. It was very graphic not only with death related things, but sexually and in the language used.

Also, this book is a very long book so be ready to devote a lot of time to reading it!

I recommend The Raising to all ADULTS (I do not recommend this book to teenagers or younger). It had me on the edge of my seat and is great for anyone that likes sci-fi, darker topics, or sororities!

Buy It: You can purchase The Raising for $9.40 on Amazon.com
