Book Review - John Bunyan by Kevin Belmonte

John Bunyan by Kevin Belmonte is a book in the Christian Encounter Series and it is the biography of John Bunyan, the author of the famous book, Pilgrim's Progress. It details out his background and life and what led him to write his classic book.

I am someone who has never read Pilgrim's Progress, but have always heard a lot about it. I was interested to learn more about the author of this great book and what led him to write it. It was interesting to learn his life story and how he was in jail when he wrote his book. He was highly persecuted for his beliefs and it fueled his writing.
I found the book interesting, but I recommend being really interested in John Bunyan's history or Pilgrim's Progress before reading it. It is a very factual book, so it is easier to get through it if you are interested in his life.

Review: A Special Place by Bruce Sinnott

A Special Place by Bruce Sinnott is a children's book from Dorrance Publishing Company about Eddie, a little beaver, who had a question that always bothered him, "Why do beavers build dams and make ponds?" He goes around asking other animals he lives by: Mother Duck, Mr. Trout, Mr. Frog, the Wise Owl and Mr. Turtle. Finally, he asks his dad, Joe Otter, and finds out a great answer!

I really love to read to my son, but I also love when my husband reads to him. I wanted to find a good book about dads and sons and I found one in this book! It was really cute and it shows to children that sometimes the best person to ask advice from his your parents. It had good lessons to learn from the little otter and his dad. The only thing I would have changed about the book is that it had more pictures and was a little more child friendly. There were only a few black and white pictures and they were hand drawn and were a little hard to recognize at times. Other than that, I loved the words and the message of this book. I highly recommend it, especially for dads to read to their sons!
